1. Summary

In short: DocScanner is designed as a mostly local, on-device document utility app.

  • Scans, previews, OCR results, PDF generation, merge, split, compression, and export operations are intended to run on your device.
  • The app saves output files to your device storage, including locations such as Documents/DocScanner and Documents/DocScanner/Images.
  • The app uses Google AdMob to display ads. AdMob and Google may process device and advertising-related data according to their own privacy terms.
  • The app does not require account sign-in.
  • Based on the current app implementation, the developer does not operate a separate backend service for uploading your documents to the developer's own servers.

2. Information We Process

Depending on how you use the app, DocScanner may process the following categories of information:

The app's OCR functionality uses Google ML Kit On-Device Text Recognition. Based on the current implementation, OCR is intended to be performed on the device rather than by a cloud OCR service.

3. Permissions Used by the App

DocScanner may request or use the following Android permissions:

File and media access is used to let you select files, read selected content, and save app-generated output. The app does not automatically scan all files on your device outside the locations and content access you provide.

4. Advertising and AdMob

DocScanner displays banner ads and may display interstitial ads using Google Mobile Ads / AdMob. Ads may appear on app screens and may also be shown after certain successful actions such as save, export, merge, split, or compression flows.

When AdMob is used, Google and its partners may collect or process certain information such as device identifiers, advertising identifiers, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, app interactions, diagnostic information, and ad performance data, subject to Google's own policies and SDK behavior.

Your use of the app means some data may be processed by Google for advertising purposes when ads are requested or displayed.

5. Third-Party Services

DocScanner currently relies on third-party Android libraries and services including:

These providers may have their own privacy policies and data handling practices. This Privacy Policy covers the app's own behavior and is not a substitute for third-party terms.

6. Document Storage and Retention

Documents and other outputs created by DocScanner are stored on your device. Based on the current implementation, generated files may be saved to locations such as:

Files remain on your device until you delete them, uninstall the app, remove them manually, or clear app data where applicable. Some file access permissions may remain available if you grant persistent document access through Android's Storage Access Framework.

The app may list saved documents and display file metadata such as names, size, date modified, file type, and relative paths to help you manage your content.

7. File Sharing and Exports

The app may let you share files using Android's built-in share sheet and file-opening intents. When you choose to share or open a file, the app may provide a content URI through Android's secure file-sharing mechanisms so another app can access the selected file.

These actions happen only when you initiate them. Once shared with another app or service, that third party's own privacy practices will apply.

8. Children's Privacy

DocScanner is not specifically directed to children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has provided personal information through the app, please use the contact method listed below or the contact details provided on the app listing or repository page.

9. Security

The developer aims to use reasonable technical measures appropriate to an Android utility app. However, no method of device storage, local processing, or internet transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting access to your device and the files stored on it.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect app changes, legal requirements, or advertising and SDK updates. When the policy changes, the updated version may be published at the same URL with a revised "Last updated" date.

11. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, you can contact the app publisher using the contact details provided in the app store listing, on the GitHub repository, or on the page where this Privacy Policy is published.
